End of Key Stage Results
SATs (Standard Assessment Tests) are the tests given at the end of Key Stage 1 (Year 2) and Key Stage 2 (Year 6). We endeavour to make sure these tests are not stressful for our pupils.
Key Stage 1 SATs
SATS take place in Year 2 in May/June. Each child is teacher assessed in reading, writing (including spelling and handwriting), grammar and maths (including number, shape, space and measurement) . Your child will take formal tests to judge what level of ability your child is.
Key Stage 2 SATs
Year 6 children take their SATs tests in May. They cover the core subjects of English (Reading test and a Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar Test) and Maths (Written tests). The papers are sent away to be marked with results being available before your child leaves primary school in July. Your child's writing is gathered in an evidence portfolio and their 'level' is assessed by the teacher. This level is submitted to the DfE.
Year 1 Phonics Screening
The DfE have recently introduced an additional formal test which is known as Phonics Screening. This takes place in June. Your child will complete the screening individually with an adult present. They will be asked to decode a mixture of real and nonsense words. This screening test assesses whether they meet the national requirement in using their phonic knowledge to read. The results will be shared with parents before the end of the academic year.
